The Third Quarter is proud to be partnering with Dr William Platz to present a 4-part Life Drawing Masterclass experience.
Life drawing is a peculiar theatre. Commonly, an audience of artists sits quietly to study the inert body of a poorly paid and naked performer.
It is one of the only performing arts in which the performer stays absolutely motionless for the duration of the scene. Many artists have sought to exploit the theatrical nature of these reciprocal performances and create drawings which include the bodies of the artist and the model. This motif and method of illuminating the normally occluded and private sphere of the life studio yields fascinating results.
Join us for ‘ACT 1’ of this masterclass series where we collaboratively deal with the formal problem of ‘drawing the artist drawing the model’. Participants will also respond to the difficulty of assimilating themselves into the drawings — to see themselves seeing and draw themselves drawing.
