“In Chinese, the written language and art are one. With each character the calligrapher’s line encircles, summarises and so defines the subject.” Murray Bail, ‘Fairweather’

The exhibition will present a new body of drawings by Luke Roberts alongside his 1983 videowork Nazissus. To make the Fairweather drawings Roberts has applied Indian ink on watercolour paper with Chinese brush and chopsticks. The works allude to the practice in Chinese and Japanese culture of using the same brush for writing, drawing and painting.

Opening event: Thursday 15 September 6.00 – 8.00 pm
