Jan Murphy Gallery presents Water and Stone, Marina Strocchi’s 10th solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition brings together large-scale paintings developed following the artist’s return to Italy in 2025, reconnecting with her family’s history in Emilia–Romagna.
While in the village of Granarolo Faentino, Strocchi was invited to create a mural centred on the local canal—an enduring site of communal life. Drawing on the long history of the canals of La Pianura, the works trace themes of adaptation, continuity, and connection between land, architecture, and memory. Flowing patterns of water, shifting rhythms of daily life, and recurring motifs reflect how place can feel both deeply familiar and newly discovered.
Strocchi’s practice is informed by decades of work across Australia and internationally, including significant periods in Europe, Central Australia, and the United States. Her paintings are held in major public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria and Artbank, and she has been a finalist in numerous major Australian art prizes.
