Award winning NSW artist John Caldwell is one of Australia’s master landscape painters. Renowned for his dramatic and atmospheric paintings of an often rugged Australian landscape Caldwell’s paintings begin with drawings and general impressions made on location later to be transformed in his studio works.
John will demonstrate the procedure he follows in his own painting practice and while the subject demonstrated will be the landscape, processes may be equally applied to the still life and the figurative.
John Caldwell’s workshops are not to be missed. He demonstrates the seemingly miraculous process of bringing a vision of order and natural form into being out of broad and spontaneous beginnings as in the best traditions of landscape painting. John Caldwell’s processes integrate the painterly and the graphic the transparent and the opaque in water-based painting media and the economic use of a variety of drawing materials.
The workshop will excite all artists of all abilities and the size of the class is strictly limited so that John can give maximum assistance and advice on a one to one basis.
