Deadline:

Grey Street Gallery, QCA

Total Sellout! is Matthew Newkirk’s most recent body of work. It investigates the commodification of art in contemporary society.

Referencing the ‘Spectacle’ and channelling absurdist DADA, Newkirk undermines concepts of authenticity and originality to speak to the value and worth of art through the lens of ‘capitalism versus cultural capital’.

The politics of curation and institutional models are put under the microscope when weighed up against the almighty dollar.

His ironic and playful treatment of the digital realm question the physicality of art as well as the role of the gallery in our postmodern, COVID present, online reality.

Opening Night: 26th August, 6pm
