Aster + Asha Gallery @ Art-Work Studios

Aster + Asha Gallery will present a pop-up exhibition on the Gold Coast from 14 – 15 May 2022. Mellow Thoughts will bring together eleven emerging artists from across Australia, each presenting small works on paper using a range of materials.

“Drifting recollections and future reveries softly ebb and flow through our mind when we slow right down. Immersed in this languid state, endless possibilities rise and fall, time dissipates and space is found to reflect, imagine and dream.”

Mellow Thoughts is an exhibition revelling in that moment of taking pause, when thoughts are allowed to wander and gentleness leads the way. Presented at Art-Work Studios in Mermaid Beach, Queensland, the show will include painting, drawing, photography, collage, print and mixed media works.

Using pages from tourism books and motifs found in stained glass windows, Maddison Kitching has created a series of playful mixed media works. Through Kitching’s observations of the interaction of light and glass, he has overlaid oil paint to recreate some of the shapes, texture and transparency through which we view the Australian landscape.

Jack MacRae’s deftly created hand-cut collages using coloured paper are inspired by his travels into nature. He distils the colours, sensations and moods from his expeditions to produce dream like works that beckon with their gentle lines and soft curves.

Inspired by stories from her Romani Gypsy heritage, Carla Adams evocative watercolours depict offerings to King Sun and King Moon. These works acknowledge those special moments of stillness and quietness between day and night. According to folklore, this small time between the daily dark/light cycle is when both kings show their faces and magic is at its full strength.
