Bitter Bench was installed in a site where an old brisbane city tram stop/shelter used to be. Several years ago this herritage listed structure which often sheltered homelss people was removed in one of Campbell Newman’s efforts to “clean up the city”. This bench was illigally installed as a retaliation to the councils actions. The bench housed electronic components that activated pre-recorded testimonials from 4 homeless people who used to stay at the old site. The installation also contained a plaque insinuating the bench installation was Campbells pennance to the homeless, yet the bench was articulated in a manner that would tip out anyone who tried to sit in it.
The installation lasted two days before it was removed.
