Jan Manton Art is pleased to announce upcoming exhibition by Michael Doolan.  Using a combination ceramics, aluminium, fibreglass and high gloss automative paint Doolan creates sculptures relating to childhood memories from his mother’s ornament cabinet.

Doolan states, “The works in Stories with Endings Changed embody the unsettling sensations that I unexpectedly experience when encountering certain images and objects. Initially, the origins of these feelings were difficult to locate, but over the years, I have discovered that these uncanny experiences stem from my childhood where I spent countless hours at home gazing into the glass-fronted cabinet that held my Mother’s cherished collection of small antique glass and ceramic figurines.

Through the de- and re-construction of these objects from my childhood, I am merging the past within the present and the kaleidoscopic optical effects of the works’ two dimensional mirror surface at play on their three-dimensional form is set to instill feelings of “intellectual uncertainty” in the onlooker.”
