Mikala Dwyer Publication Launch

Deadline:

Institute of Modern Art

The IMA is pleased to launch Mikala Dwyer’s monograph Drawing Down the Moon. For more than twenty years, Mikala Dwyer has pushed the limits of installation, sculpture and performance, establishing herself as one of Australia’s most engaging contemporary artists.

To launch the publication, the Mikala has invited Brisbane artist Caitlin Franzmann to deliver her performance: Magical Thinking. Mikala curated Franzmann into the 2014 iteration of Primavera at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia; for which she was a guest curator.

Drawing Down The Moon was produced in conjunction with the eponymous exhibition held at the IMA in 2012. It contains contributions by Anthony Byrt, Toni Ross, Michael Taussig, and an interview with Robert Leonard. Copies will be available for purchase at a special reduced price at the event.

Dwyer has been exhibiting internationally since 1982, and recent solo exhibitions include: the garden of half-life, University of Sydney Art Gallery, Sydney (2014), Goldene Bend’er, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2013), Drawing Down the Moon, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2012); Costumes and Empty Sculptures, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2008); Moon Garden, Aratoi Museum, Masterton (2008); The Addition and Subtractions and The Hanging Garden, Kunstraum, Potsdam (2007); I Maybe We, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington (2005) and Art Lifts, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2002).
