MiSHŌ Residency is an interdisciplinary residency in Fujino, Japan, west of Tokyo, welcoming critically and socially engaged artists, creatives, researchers, writers, educators, musicians, dancers, choreographers, permaculture designers, farmers, cooks and practitioners working across disciplines.
The residency encourages context-responsive creative practices through engagement with Fujino’s local community and its cultural and natural landscape. Projects can be at any stage, from open-ended research and experimentation through to developing an existing work or contemplating a new project.
In 2027, MiSHŌ will host five residency programs, each running for four weeks. Longer-term engagement is also possible through the separate Creative Stay program, which provides a more flexible base for independent research, experimentation and contemplation. Fujino train station is approximately a 12-minute walk from MiSHŌ and provides direct access to central Tokyo in around 60 minutes.
