MON-ART – The Monasteries of Art – is offering two international residencies exploring how heritage sites can be reactivated through contemporary artistic practice, public engagement, and cultural regeneration.
Tihany Abbey (Hungary)
A 3–6 month residency focused on responding to monastic life, landscape, and cultural heritage. Artists are encouraged to develop site-responsive works and participatory projects engaging visitors and local communities.
Valserena Abbey (Italy)
A 6-month residency centred on sustainability, public art, and cultural memory. Artists will work within a historic monastery context, collaborating with local communities and contributing to cultural regeneration.
Both residencies emphasise research-led, socially engaged, and site-specific practices.
Eligibility: Open to international artists (Brisbane-based artists are eligible)
Support:
- Tihany Abbey: €1,000/month + travel, accommodation, production
- Valserena Abbey: €6,000 total + accommodation, travel, workspace, production support
