Mustarinda Multidisciplinary Residency

Deadline:

Deadline: October 13

Mustarinda invites artists, researchers and other professionals to live and work together in its residency house in Finland for periods of 2–6 weeks as part of its 2027 multidisciplinary residency program, themed “The House as a Teacher.”

The program welcomes all forms of artistic and research practices, mediums, practitioners and projects. The residency explores how living with and through the house, its seasons and its ecological context can become a site for exchange, experimentation, knowledge production and collective learning.

The 2027 residency periods are:

  • 1–26 February 2027 — Winter
  • 1–25 March 2027 — Winter
  • 3–28 May 2027 — Spring/Summer
  • 1–29 June 2027 — Spring/Summer
  • 16–30 August 2027 — Spring/Summer
  • 6 September–15 October 2027 — Autumn
  • 18 October–26 November 2027 — Autumn

The house accommodates approximately 7–8 residents at a time. Residents contribute affordable rent depending on their room or studio and are also expected to contribute a few hours to weekly household chores.

Residency costs:
Studios range from €390–€540 per month, with two-week and six-week rates available. Writers’ rooms range from €330 per month. Additional charges apply for an extra person sharing a room.

Mustarinda can provide confirmation letters for successful applicants seeking funding, slow-travel funding or visas.

The “House as a Teacher” theme is a prompt rather than a selection criterion, and applicants do not have to directly address the theme in their proposal.

Accessibility:
Mustarinda is an old wooden schoolhouse in an isolated forest environment with uneven ground and significant accessibility limitations. The organisation encourages applicants with access requirements to contact them confidentially before applying.
