WHEN : 10th August – 15th December / Opening 16th August, 6:30pm
WHERE : UQ Art Museum
NEW 2013 features a selection of artworks acquired for The University of Queensland Art Collection during 2012–2013. The exhibition highlights the University’s active acquisition program, which continues a tradition of acquiring innovative artworks that respond to the contemporary moment. Also featured are works from earlier periods, which enter the Collection primarily through donations (including gifts under the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program) and bequests.
As a special highlight, we have devoted one gallery to celebrate donors to the Collection. Works in Gallery C will be rotated three times over the course of the exhibition, enabling a greater number of gifts and donors to be acknowledged. Six students, drawn from a variety of disciplines, worked with the curator to select works and establish the following thematic groupings:
- Colours of Country (10 August – 22 September)
- Dreamscapes (24 September – 3 November)
- Assuming the Feminine (5 November – 15 December)
Curator: Michele Helmrich
Public Program : ‘The Art of Collecting’
When : Friday 16 August 5.00 pm – 6.00 pm
Before the opening, please join us for a lively discussion on the art of building a collection, be it small scale, high-end, or following an alternate model. Chaired by Michele Helmrich with Mal Enright, Morris Low and Jane Wilson.
