‘New Arcadia: Contemporary Australian Photography’ is group exhibition featuring 11 artists from around Australia. The exhibition showcases 24 personal views of what is ‘Australian’
New Arcadia explores the notion that Australian iconography is not static or concrete but is open to reinvestigation and new interpretation through subjective representations. The exhibition draws on the early colonial illusion of Australia as a Tropical Arcadia. Since then, there has been a clear desire to pinpoint a more solid idea of what is ‘Australian’. In contrast, the exhibition encourages viewers to take a more personal approach.
