Located in Brisbane, ILEANA is a gallery dedicated to bringing international contemporary art to Australia. The inaugural exhibition, Great Ladies, opens on 17 November and runs until 23 December, featuring American and European artists such as Cindy Sherman, Bridget Riley, Louise Bourgeois and Judy Chicago. The gallery was founded by Boris Cornelissen, who previously worked as a contemporary art specialist at Sotheby’s in London and Hong Kong, and named after the legendary art dealer Ileana Sonnabend, who was the first real bridge between American and European contemporary art markets (and in fact the first international art dealer to sell a work to Australian art collector John Kaldor in 1963). Her contributions to the development of an inter-continental art market are to an extent also the ambitions  of ILEANA, with the aim of making international contemporary art more accessible in Australia.
