Nina Stromqvist in Conversation with Karlina Mitchell

Deadline:

March 21
Outer Space

Join curator Nina Stromqvist in conversation with multidisciplinary artist Karlina Mitchell as they reflect on the evolution of Mitchell’s expansive practice and explore the ideas shaping her exhibition Homeplace.

Mitchell works across photography and installation to investigate how diasporic communities express both personal and collective identity. Her practice considers the complex ways individuals locate themselves within cultural histories, migration and shared experiences.

Stromqvist brings extensive experience as a curator and writer working across exhibition development, research, consultancy and community-focused initiatives. She was recently contracted as a curator with Urban Art Projects (2025) and previously served as Curatorial Programs Manager at Penrith Regional Gallery, Home of the Lewers Bequest (2022–2024). Stromqvist currently teaches museum studies and contemporary curating at UNSW Art & Design and the University of Sydney.

This free event offers audiences an opportunity to hear directly from both curator and artist as they discuss the conceptual foundations of Homeplace and the broader trajectories of Mitchell’s work.

Free with RSVP. Spaces are limited.

Accessibility: The gallery is wheelchair accessible via the Brunswick Street entrance. Due to current building works at the Judith Wright Arts Centre, the passenger lift is not operational. Bathrooms can be accessed from the Level 1 courtyard entrance.
