Ningura Napurrula Gibson was born 1938 in the remote desert of Western Australia. As a yougn women she helped her husband artist Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi in infilling the backgrounds of his canvases. She did not begin painting in her own right until the mid 1990’s and had her first solo exhibition with William Mora Aboriginal Art in 2000. She also participated in the Kintore Women’s Painting exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney.

In 2003 Ningura was one of five artists to have her artwork featured on a range of Australia Post international stamps. The new Musee du Quai Branly in Paris, which opened in July 2006 features Ningura’s women’s story repainted on the first floor ceiling of the administration building. Ningura is one of eight Aboriginal artists selected to have an example of their work incorporated into the architecture of the Museum.

In 2007 and 2008, Ningura was selected as one of the 50 Most Collectible Artists by the Australian Art Collector Magazine.
