Contemporary arts recent focus has primarily been on global trauma, rather than that experienced in the home. Unlike these globally publicised trauma’s, domestic trauma is “part of the everyday, domestic in that it is hidden, secret, and protected from public view”, which is why the artists in this exhibition feel so compelled to reveal the hidden histories of family trauma. Kerrie Mackay, a Mixed Media artist, aims to create empathy and awareness of intergenerational trauma through narrative. Jean Martin, an Interdisciplinary Artist, works within the realm of memory and identity to combine traditional analogue photography, audio and text-based collage. Victoria Thompson-Reid, is a social documentary photographer whose autobiographic, collaborative photography explores what it is like to be a mother.
