DEPART closed out our 2020 program and now offers a ‘restart’ point as we enter the new year, more resilient and more prepared for whatever lies ahead in the next 12 months. Artists’ work in the exhibition reflected on the idea that 2020 did not ‘conclude’ in the usual way. Early events in 2021 have already prompted concerns, as well as cautious optimism, as these artist offering musings on their new trajectories.
On the last day of this exhibition, curator Taylor Hall, sits down with five artists from DEPART to pose questions about new directions, changes to the arts industry and how we prepare for another 12 months that may continue to bewilder us. After the scheduled conversation, Thomas Oliver will deliver a short performance poem, in response to the themes of the exhibition and connected to his work, An Uneasy Sense of Optimism About the Future (2020).
We are delighted to invite you to explore the exhibition, listen and even join the conversation about these topics. Unfortunately, spaces will be limited, so RSVPs are required and will be taken until capacity is reached.
