OpenSource is a series of exhibitions throughout 2013 exploring the use of crowd sourcing within the still and moving image, including Visual Art, Film, Music Videos, and Animations.
Dustin Grella is a New York-based Artist that works across a range of media, often exploring the mundane through intriguing visual insights. Grella’s work has screened at the Cannes Film Festival, Margaret Mead Film Festival, and won the Disney Award at the Ottawa International Film Festival.
On show are two different exhibition compilations of daily micro-animations. For the Animation Hotline project, Dustin Grella established a voicemail service whereby anyone in the world could leave a thirty second message. Everyday he would respond to one of the crowd-sourced messages by creating an animation in his distinct chalkboard style. The result is a collection of intricate and personal animations narrated by the voice of the messenger.
