Paula Payne: Landskins

Deadline:

Onespace Gallery

Onespace Gallery is pleased to present, Landskins. This exhibition is a culmination of Paula Payne’s visual arts practice-led research at Griffith University – Queensland College of Art, initiated by a residency at Mt Gravatt studios, where she explored space and landscape. The resulting body of work is a series of large scale paintings on cotton, emulating painted skins. Reflective of her exploration of space and how we think about representing landscape, this installation of large works provides an immersive space for the viewer to experience these landscapes and environmental spaces.

Research developments led to these painted environmental works and considerations of how land is documented and viewed from above. Payne continues to be influenced by aerial views during a broad search and process led production of this ‘landskin’seriesA consideration that came to light during her working process is that the large ‘skins’ on primed cotton (without support) are handled differently, the ‘skins’ are painted flat and worked on from above. Her process of creating this series has brought Payne to contemplate how a contemporary painter can expand images and ideas to represent global anxiety as a focus for a landscape painting investigation.
