Portraiture Workshop with Tori-Jay Mordey

Deadline:

Deadline: July 15

Join Tori-Jay Mordey at this beginner-friendly portrait workshop. Tori-Jay is a First Nations artist and illustrator. Her portraits are created using various mediums including digital illustrations and drawings, printmaking and mural painting.

Tori-Jay will show her process of marking out faces and developing a portrait. Participants will practise using these techniques before diving into timed life drawings.

Tori-Jay Mordey is an established First Nations Australian illustrator and artist. She is currently based in Meanjin (Brisbane). Over the years Tori-Jay has honed her skills in digital illustrations, drawings, painting, printmaking and film. She is working on expanding her skills as a mural artist. Her work revolves around human connection and exploring her racial identity.

In her illustrative work, Tori-Jay combines stylistic cartoons with realism. This helps capture the complexities of our emotions. She distorts and exaggerates the characters in a way that expresses and exposes their vulnerabilities. Tori-Jay has over 6 years of professional experience within the art industry. She prides herself on building connections and making a difference, especially when representing herself, her community, and Torres Straits Islander artists.

This workshop is part of the exhibition Interfacial Intimacies.
