We warmly invite you to the opening of three new exhibitions at QCA Galleries on Thursday, 29th September from 5.30pm.

Here Now Past

This exhibition from current Master of Visual Arts students examines time – the way time marks memories, the way time marks people, the way time makes marks. There is a mark left by time on everything that it touches. In our minds, time marks our memories; on our bodies, time marks our image. We can spend our time attempting to capture, record or deny its effects, with the present passing us by in this process.

Light Jelly Sweet pt1: Henry Hu

This is an exhibition of new and recent works by Henry Hu. The show features paintings, photographs, and video installations โ€” spotlighting the artistโ€™s multidisciplinary practice and hisexplorations of abstraction as a force that might signify life without directly representing it.

The paintings combine a multi-layered process of paint pours with raw, earthly materials like sand, gravel, twig, grass and wood. The works are an embodiment of the natural world. A piece of reflection. A quiet wonder.

4): Multiculturalism, Tourism and Culturally Sensitive Design in Chinatowns: Yanqiao Jiang

Yanqiao Jiang is a current DVA candidate at the Queensland College of Art. She is a Chinese branding designer with an interest in using design to explore ethnography, specifically in Chinese indigenous cultures. Her Masters research focused on designing cultural iconography for the Meishan region in China and my doctoral research is exploring the symbolism that reflects the diversity of Chinese ethnic groups in the Guizhou province. In her current design practice, she is exploring ways of combining design with craft in a way that embodies the essential and diverse features of Chinese folk culture to an Australian audience.
