While the events of 2020 conspired to separate us from our peers and studio studies, the pull to be creative and connected grew stronger. In the midst of disruption, we adapted. We found new ways to communicate and learn, to make art, to tell our stories. Discussions on mental health became a frequent aspect of in person and digital communications as the links between us deepened. Absence crystalised the necessity for art, creativity, and authentic interaction in a way we’d never experienced before.

‘Action in Absence’ is our way of recognising that despite disconnections, we are all part of a diverse, incredible community of artists that is the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.

QCA Thursdays are a series of QCA Galleries opening events that seek to broaden the art experience. QCA Thursdays are a space for the presentation and interpretation of contemporary visual arts and design practice, and a site for gathering, conversation and learning. Join us from 5.30pm on Thursday, 22nd July to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions from students of the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.
