The stories, characters and everyday lives of people in Queensland outback towns are captured in this unique photo-documentary project that reflects the changing face of rural Queensland.

Discover the diverse stories of Queensland’s outback towns. View images that capture the interplay between communities, commerce and natural resources, set against the backdrop of striking scenery and harsh landscapes.

The project is a collaboration between three Brisbane universities — The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University. Images were taken by staff and students from photography and journalism faculties, as well as professional photographers including Russel Shakespeare, Adam Ferguson and Shehab Uddin.
