McCarthy-Swann Projects is excited to share RAZZLE DAZZLE a Brisbane City Council Outdoor Gallery exhibition, featuring works by Richard Bell, Eric Bridgeman, Gerwyn Davies, Chantal Fraser, Hannah Gartside, Rachael Haynes, Natalya Hughes, Luke Roberts, Justin Shoulder & Bhenji Ra, Sancintya Mohini Simpson, and Jemima Wyman.
A colloquial term for good ol’ theatrics, and the name of an early 20th century camouflage patterning, RAZZLE DAZZLE brings together artists concerned with identity, spectacle, disguise and disappearance.
Taking place through the streets of Brisbane, across lightboxes, banners, and night-time projections, RAZZLE DAZZLE features artists using patterning, colour, and adornment, to both emphasise and veil bodies and faces – in a social context in which many people of marginalised identities are subject to scrutiny.
Returning to Brisbane’s streets after the success of 2017’s ephemeral installations, The Weight of Light and The Size of Air, McCarthy-Swann Projects are proud to curate Brisbane City Council’s Outdoor Galleries. Join us to consider what it means to occupy public space; to be under scrutiny; to feel invisible or hyper-visible.
RAZZLE DAZZLE runs until 22 November, 2020 – wander the streets and discover the works, or join us for a tour, workshop, or panel discussion. Enjoy the show. |
