Split between old and new Robert Andrew explores his Australian Indigenous history with the use of contemporary technology. Water, ochre, and oxide dominate his choice of materials as he combines the personal and the local with the global technological narrative. Andrew’s work is concerned with the uncovering, revealing and re-presenting aspects in Australian indigenous history that have been previously hidden, distorted and denied.

BIOGRAPHY

Andrew has completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art with honours from the Queensland College or Art and is currently undertaking his doctorate. His artwork ‘Moving out of Muteness’ has been acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria and is on display in their exhibition ‘Indigenous Art: Moving backwards into the future’. He has a strong exhibition profile and his work has been featured in various exhibition some of which include; ‘Offset’, State Library Queensland (2014); ‘Solid!’, Cairns Regional Gallery (2014); and ‘Middle Ground’, The Hold Gallery (2013). He is a recipient of The Gas: Graduate Art Show and Survey Room Award (2013) and the St Andrew’s War memorial Hospital Art Prize (2013). In 2014 he completed a commission for Kiln Media in Canada.
