Sally Anderson curates Houses and Horses for Dad, a group exhibition exploring the cyclical nature of grief, care and domestic life through recurring motifs of houses and horses. These forms become allegories for shelter, endurance, containment and belonging.
Presented in the year following Anderson’s father’s death and shortly after the birth of her daughter, the exhibition reflects on the interconnected experiences of motherhood and daughterhood, caring and being cared for. Drawing on Anderson’s upbringing and the significance of horses in her family history, the works consider home, landscape, household rituals and the ways the outside world enters domestic spaces.
Anderson’s paintings are presented alongside works by invited artists, bringing together individual experiences and personal histories across generations, while reflecting on how relationships between past, present and future continually shape our understanding of care and belonging.
