Sam Bullock’s paintings are boldly energetic and bursting with vibrant colour and narrative. ‘Autistic spectrum: Darkness and light’ features a series of portraits of people Bullock loves or admires, including Brett Whiteley, Jean-Michel Basquiat, his father, friend Ziggy and his dog Honey, among others. Alongside these are Bullock’s recollections of life in lockdown, and responses to; sketchy government dealings; systemic racism in Australia and the US; Aboriginal rights, and he packs a powerful punch to the stereotypical misunderstandings of autism.
