Between Dystopia and Utopia presents a suite of new work by Sam Cranstoun that explores the history of C.A. Doxiadis in Brisbane. Doxiadis was an accomplished town planner, architect and engineer who after arriving in Australia from Greece failed to have his qualifications recognised. After three years spent in Queensland farming tomatoes, Doxiadis returned to Athens where he immediately gained recognition, working as a town planner and architect throughout Europe, the Middle East, North and North East Africa, as well as the United States. He developed a system of town planning theory known as Ekistics, and would eventually found his own university in Athens.
