Scott McDougall’s career spans an impressive four decades. Since beginning his career in Queensland, Scott has travelled extensively, capturing intimate moments across the globe. His highly refined techniques allow Scott to not only capture a picture perfect scene but the mood. He truly captures life as it is with his careful choice of subject matter. Viewing his paintings you can feel the streaming sunshine, see the cracks in the pavement and be surrounded by busy streets.

“I have been experimenting with capturing the spirit of the landscape in Northern NSW with a series of paintings that have their beginnings as small observations.

With the luxury of time I have been able to assess the impact of these works and consider how they could evolve into larger paintings. Changes to the scale, composition and colour palette highlight different qualities of the same subject.

Scale especially changes the emotional impact of the two images. There is a certain precious quality to the small paintings while the larger works make you feel as if  you could fall into the scene and be completely embraced by the landscape.” – Scott McDougall
