Recently I have become fascinated with the raw power of fire and flames, the intensity of its colour and heat.
The huge cane fires that light up the Tweed Valley during harvest season have provided inspiration for my new body of work. The aftermath of falling ash – cane rain, that falls from the heavens at this time of year adds yet another dimension. Towering walls of flame make a very dramatic backdrop for my new narratives.
I’m enjoying the challenge of capturing the twisting arabesque of flames and the translucence of fire in all its terrifying ferocity. I have also managed to relocate that fire to some more urban settings, free-way underpasses and multi level car parks. It seemed a natural progression.
