Neither Here Nor There revisits several of Seth Ellis’ installations from the past five years, including one new Brisbane-based work. These installations emerged from residencies and habitations in different parts of the globe, from Brisbane to Russia to several towns in the US. Each work springs from a peripatetic American’s deep engagement with, and research into, the local history of a place. These histories form the particular nature of each town, but they also form a network of similar experiences of the industrial world and its repercussions and aftermath. In this exhibition, the stories of the research undertaken by an eternal visitor reveal affective and historical connections and differences.
