‘Momentum’ is a solo exhibition by Sharna Barker that explores the strategy and role of chance in artistic practice, and its relationship with chaos and order. Using methods of chance, Barker takes existing forms, colours, and textures into new works, allowing each to inform the next in multiple directions. In this there is a sense of structure to a seemingly chaotic method — one does not entirely let go of order to dive into chaos, it finds movement in-between, a rhythm.
The works explore how chance is a way to apply an extension, as if to repeat something but flirting with accidents that give birth to new possibilities. There is an interest in how chance results in change, that nonetheless comes from a friendly relationship with materials.
