A Celebration of Contemporary Australian Ceramics
Ceramic Arts Queensland (CAQ) is delighted to announce the winners of the Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence and the Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Ceramics Award.
The 2025 Siliceous Award for Ceramic Excellence has been awarded to Tamasin Pepper for the work ‘Wrapped Rust and Flight’.
Highly commended awards, supported by The Australian Ceramics Association, were given to: Cathy Franzi for the work ‘Coochin Hills Grevillea’; and Graham Hay for the work ‘Unravel Vase: Mortal Coil Series’.
The Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Wood Fired Ceramics Award, presented by the Australian Wood Firers United, has been awarded to Ben Richardson for the work ‘Foliage Vase – Cairn Series’.
These awards are a recognition and celebration of artistic excellence and innovation in ceramics, pottery, and ceramic sculpture. A high standard of entries from around Australia was received for this year’s award and we are proud to be showcasing all the finalists in our exhibition.
The prize winners and finalists will be displayed at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane Institute of Art from 16 March until 25 March, 10am to 4pm daily. Visitors to the gallery are encouraged to submit a vote for the People’s Choice Award.
All work, other than the recipient of the Siliceous Award, will be for sale. The e-catalogue, featuring the finalists, is available here
CAQ would like to thank our volunteers, the judge, Dr Julie Bartholomew, and the selection panel, Jack Balfour, Simone Linssen, and John Massy for their time and expertise; Australian Wood Firers United; and The Australian Ceramics Association.
Siliceous is an acquisitive award, with the winning piece becoming part of CAQ’s permanent collection.
