Singapore . Brisbane Exchange

Deadline:

WHAT : Open Call to Artists, Writers and Curators
DEADLINE : April 30th

Chan Hampe Galleries (Singapore) in partnership with Metro Arts (Australia) is calling for applications from emerging artists and curators or writers in their first five years of practice for an international residency program that will take place in Singapore and Brisbane, Australia.

The Singapore/Brisbane Exchange is a cultural exchange program that will comprise of a six week residency period (three weeks in Singapore and three weeks in Brisbane) for four artists and two curators or writers and result in a major exhibition project at Metro Arts to coincide with the Asia Pacific Triennial at the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art (8 December 2012 – 7 April 2013).

The participating residents, two artists and one curator or writer from each country, will be challenged to respond to the urbanisation and built environment of the two cities. For the past quarter century, the government of Singapore has significantly redeveloped the city to facilitate the daily needs of its people and to enhance economic growth. Similarly, Brisbane is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia, having experienced significant population growth over the last two decades. Development permeates the culture of both cities.

Successful applicants will receive a return economy airfare, accommodation while in the exchange country, and a contribution to living expenses while on exchange of $A700 (for Australian participants) or $S900 (for Singaporean participants) in addition to $A1,000 for Australian participants and $S1,300 for Singaporean participants, as a contribution to production costs.

It is expected that the successful applicants will participate in the residency full-time for six weeks and collaborate with the other selected artists to create work, document the process in an online blog and contribute to an exhibition catalogue, while also realising an exhibition and participating in the opening night and artist talk events. The artists will have Metro Arts Galleries at their disposal during their entire residency period in Brisbane.
