Slavs and Tatars: The Tranny Tease

Deadline:

Gallery of Modern Art

Please join us for a special lecture-performance by Slavs and Tatars entitled The Tranny Tease. Through a focus on Turkic languages of the former Soviet Union, The Tranny Tease explores how transliteration (the conversion of scripts) can act as a method of resistance, highlighting notions of identity politics, colonialism, and faith.

This program coincides with the opening of their exhibition at the IMA, Mirror For Princes. This event is presented in partnership with Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art, and is held at the Australian Cinémathèque (Cinema A) on Sunday, 25 October at 2.30pm.

Slavs and Tatars have exhibited in major institutions across the Middle East, Europe and North America, including the Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, 10th Sharjah, 8th Berlin, 3rd Thessaloniki, and 9th Gwangju Biennials. Select solo engagements include MoMA, NY (2012), Secession, Vienna (2012), Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (2013), Dallas Museum of Art (2014), Kunsthalle Zurich (2014), GfZK, Leipzig (2014) and NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery (2015).
