Presenting the everyday as sometimes banal, beautiful and profound, the still life genre offers up consideration of life, death and all that comes in between. Since STILL 2019, there has been no shortage of extreme events that have driven people indoors, prompting reflection, stirring dreams and uncovering truths in time to be captured in this year’s award.
STILL seeks to highlight the diversity and vitality of still life in Australian contemporary art practice, broadening the interpretation and meaning of this enduring genre. The award is open to artists at all stages of their careers across Australia. 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, and this will be the final STILL exhibition in its current space.
