This full-day workshop will explore various tools and vocabularies used when writing for contemporary performance. Participants will explore various methods for story telling through performance, using group and individual writing tasks, improvisation, screen writing, found materials and autobiography.
Techniques and methods will be drawn from Emma and Vidya’s own work and learned from their time training with Tim Etchells of Forced Entertainment (UK), Gob Squad (Berlin), SITI (New York), Rawcus (Aus), iO Chicago (USA), Naked Comedy Lab (USA), The Rabble (Aus), and Melbourne Festival’s Director’s Lab.
This workshop is open to all adults with an interest in writing or performing for contemporary performance, as well as artists of any discipline interested in using autobiography as source. No prior experience necessary.

About the Facilitators
We are Emma Hall and Vidya Rajan, two writer-performers from Adelaide and Perth (respectively), currently living in Melbourne.
Emma Hall is an award-winning theatre-maker based in Melbourne, Australia. Her solo performance works have toured Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Her interest is in experimental, non-narrative performance forms and political activism in art.

Vidya Rajan is a writer, comic, and performance-maker working in theatre and television. She has trained and performed extensively in improvisation and sketch in Australia and the United States. Vidya has a Masters in Writing for Performance (VCA) and is a current writer in residence at the Malthouse Theatre.
