The Dream Weaver: Guardians of Grace

Deadline:

30 August
-
September 21
Brisbane Powerhouse

Grace Lillian Lee is a multicultural artist known for her contemporary interpretation of a traditional weaving practice and groundbreaking collaborations with Indigenous communities, creating a platform for cultural expression and celebration by way of fashion performances. Featuring eight ethereal Shields and Armours, each evoking Grace’s totem, Koysemer (moth), The Dream Weaver: Guardians of Grace is a homage to lineage. From the symbolism of the Koysemer to her Chinese name, Yuklan (Jade Orchard), each piece details her story, including lace patterns from her namesake’s blouse, weaving a narrative that transcends time.

Step into this captivating realm where past and present merge, inviting exploration of the shared human experience. Don’t miss this extraordinary journey where history’s threads are woven into the fabric of the present, celebrating cultural heritage and the enduring power of art.

Grace Lillian Lee and Jean Paul Gaultier

In a very special collaboration, Grace Lillian Lee will also unveil an iconic couture piece. This new sculptural couture costume was developed to take centre stage on the catwalk for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show, following Grace’s invitation to connect with Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris to exchange knowledge, designs and inspirations. This collaboration has the incredible potential to further propel Grace’s practice, build her international profile and impart the knowledge and beauty of Australia’s First Nations Peoples.
