The murmur of faded landscapes – marginal sites within the urban fringe

Dennis McCart’s first solo exhibition at QCA Galleries interprets and contextualizes marginal landscapes. Consisting of three parts; a series of static representational oil paintings; an atlas of source photos from locations and animations projected on to static drawings. Using expanded painting and drawing practice the artist reinterprets landscapes of the urban fringe, sites of abandonment and accrual.

The artworks are palimpsest landscape collages of time and decay, in a metaphysical sense sites of forgetting and remembering. “I feel they represent the front line of a battle between nature and human interference, a world where you can see both the past and the future within the site.” – Dennis McCart. The artist considers these sites a truer vision of contemporary landscape while evoking a rich source of aesthetic, social and environmental conversations.
