In 1935, Walter Benjamin published The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction. He argued that although art maintains its distinction from the reproduction, it is nevertheless irrevocably changed by the existence of reproductive technologies.

This exhibition updates Benjamin’s enquiry, asking what is the impact of selfie culture on contemporary practice? The Work of Art in the Age of the Selfie brings together graduates from 2438QCA Representation: Looking at You, Me & the Selfie to answer this question. These practices are informed by and respondent to the aesthetics of selfie culture. They incorporate self-scrutiny, love and display, memorialisation and touch.

Curated by Louise R Mayhew.

Artists: Ashlee Becks, Mark du Potiers, Madelaine Dufficy, Tristan Eyles, Diane Green, Conchita Hurst, Sunday Jemmott, Sarah Louise, Kathleen O’Hagan, Isabella Porras, Leisa Turner, Anneliese Moore, Margot Sackson, Kit Syvret and Samantha Wallis.

*Please note there will be a performance piece that contains nudity.*
