Transience: A confluence of Australian and Chinese culture

Deadline:

Redland Art Gallery

In this exhibition Brisbane artists Joe Furlonger, Jun Chen and Pamela See have created new work about suburban and regional Queensland, exploring the theme ‘transience’.Transience was inspired by the example of artist Ian Fairweather (1891 – 1974) who produced his most acclaimed paintings whilst living on Bribie Island in the mid-1950’s onwards. China’s artistic traditions prompted him to adopt a calligraphic line and to simplify form and colour in his imagery. Sharing Brisbane as their base, with strong affinities for both Australia and China, the art practice of Jun Chen, Joe Furlonger and Pamela See is trans-cultural in expression and shows examples of the close connections developing between the two countries and the Chinese diaspora.
