un Magazine 21.1: Autodidactism — Call for Proposals

Deadline:

Deadline: November 2

un Magazine invites proposals for issue 21.1, Autodidactism, guest edited by Paul Boyé. The call explores self-directed learning, alternative education and the role of the autodidact in contemporary art and arts organising.

The issue seeks to examine the contradictions of self-teaching: its potential to secure creative autonomy and challenge established institutions, while also making labour invisible and unrecognised. Contributors are invited to consider whether the ideals of alternative education, knowledge-sharing and DIY practice can offer pathways forward for contemporary artist-run organising.

Potential topics include self-learning, alternative arts education, experimental art history, DIY in contemporary art, curatorial approaches to gallery education, citizen science, para-academia, Indigenous pedagogy, child development, homeschooling, computational model training, shadow libraries, online text repositories, diagrammatics, psychoanalysis and self-development, the Platonic figure of the demiurge, and the bildungsroman.

A broad range of submissions is welcomed, including arts criticism essays, artwork pages, interviews, artist profiles, exhibition reviews and other contributions relevant to the theme.
