Vera Möller (b.1955, Bremen, Germany) is a Melbourne based artist whose keen interest in the natural world, science, and art converges in the images and objects produced and examined within her art practice.
Möller’s original studies included biology (Universität Wurzburg, Wurzburg and Technische Universität, München, Germany 1976-79); theology and microbiology (1979-83 Ludwig Maximilians-Universität and Technische Universität München, Germany); and education (1983 Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München, Germany).
After arriving in Australian in 1986, the artist studied for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne (1990-92). Between 1995 and 2007 she completed a Master of Fine Arts (VCA, Melbourne) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Monash University, Melbourne). During this period Möller held several teaching appointments at Victoria University, RMIT, and the VCA, Melbourne.
Möller’s exhibiting career began in the early 1990s and since that time her work has been exhibited extensively both in Australia and abroad. In 2011 the artist’s solo exhibition solopinks and monoeyes: Fictional Hybrids was shown in the UK at the Sidney Cooper Gallery, Canterbury Christ Church University, Canterbury, Kent. In 2014 Möller’s work was curated in The Skullbone Experiment at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston. More recently, in 2017 her work was hung in the National Gallery of Victoria’s exhibition examining Australian art from the 1990s, Every Brilliant Eye: Australian Art of the 1990s. Brisbane audiences were able to view the artist’s work in the exhibition Water curated by QAGOMA in late 2019. In December 2020, Möller was shortlisted for the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery’s National Works on Paper Prize.
