We Are Here (WAH) is the first International Symposium for Artist Run Initiatives. NAVA, the National Association for the Visual Arts, in partnership with Firstdraft, is holding the symposium in Sydney in early September.
WAH has a schedule of events including exhibitions, seminars and workshops. The idea began with wanting to empower and privilege some of the hardest working people in the arts – artists – and to capitalise on the thinking of the leaders within the ARI sector.
Firstdraft is one of Australia’s longest running ARIs and Co-conveners Brianna Munting and Georgie Meagher envision WAH as a chance to come together, talk, have big ideas, ask big questions and make big plans. WAH will allow ARIs and artists to come together to enjoy a sense of collegiality and imagine ‘where to next’.
Brianna is the Projects and Strategy Manager at the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA). Georgie is a co-director of Firstdraft Gallery and a founding member of two artist collectives: Bake Sale for Art and Team MESS.
