At least one Australian woman dies a day as a result of ovarian cancer. It could be your mum, your aunty, your grandma; it could be you. In 2014, there were 974 deaths from ovarian cancer in Australia. In 2017, it is estimated that this will increase to 1,047 deaths. There is no early detection test and there is no cure.
We are Lucent Events, a student initiative group of TAFE Brisbane, South Bank campus and we are putting on an art exhibition and auction to support the development and implementation of an early detection program for ovarian cancer.
Our mission:
Our event, White & Bright, is “an art show with a difference”. Through the event, we endeavour to challenge the battle related jargon associated with people tackling cancer, posing a realistic standpoint that only when the weapons of language are laid down, one can leave the guilt of the media and social expectations behind and accept authenticity.
This will be a place where artists explore the realms of the mind, expressing what it means to live and exist, exhibiting the fragility of life and the sincerity of our emotions. White & Bright will make peace with violent metaphors and encourage emotive sincerity within us all.

What we are looking for:
We are looking for artists of all mediums (including visual artists and performers) to volunteer their work to be auctioned at the event with all proceeds to be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. These pieces need to be in line with White & Bright’s mission of recognising and accepting the authenticity and sincerity of emotion as well as our desire to raise much needed awareness of ovarian cancer in Australia. Pieces should be no more than 1m x 1m. The artwork will need to be submitted to us on or before the 23rd of April 2017. All other required information will be collected via the artist registration form linked below.
What we will give you:
In return for your time and your efforts, you will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the White & Bright event, including food and beverage, valued at $25.00. We will also include a photo of you and your artist statement (limited to 500 words) on our Appreciation Wall which will recognise our event sponsors, contributing artists, and special guests.
