Women’s Art Prize

The City of Ryde proudly presents the sixth annual Women’s Art Prize.

Artists and members of the community are invited to apply for the prize and exhibition with artworks that respond to themes surrounding women.

Be inspired by the 2016 International Women’s Day theme Pledge for Parity.


The exhibition is open to either gender with female artists encouraged to apply. City of Ryde staff and Councillors are eligible to apply and be selected for the exhibition but are not eligible to win any of the prizes, with the exception of the People’s Choice Award.


Winner: $1,000
Open to artists who identify as a professional or practicing full-time artist 18 years and over.


Winner: $1,000
Open to members of the community who, do not (yet) identify as a professional artist, 18 years and over. This category encourages those who study art, practice art as a hobby or as part of a community group.


Winner: $500
Open to members of the community who identify as a student, hobby artist or professional artist between the age of 12 and 25 as of 15 June 2016.


Winner: $500
This will be awarded to an artist who lives in the City of Ryde. The recipient of this award can be selected from any category, but will be chosen after the selection of all other category winners. Other category winners will not be eligible to then win this award.

Note: Only artists who live in the City of Ryde will be eligible for this award.  Any artists who live in the City of Ryde and are selected as a winner of the Open, Community or Youth will not be eligible to also win the Local Artist Award. The Local Artist Award will be chosen only after the winners of the other categories have been chosen.


Winner: $250
Open to all applicants who are selected for the exhibition in any category.  Audiences will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork in the exhibition.
