The Station

Your Pals is a brand new art collective based in Brisbane. This exhibition will be the first of many, showcasing the works of local artists, and local pals: Izzy and Sam!

Izzy is in her second year of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) at QUT, she paints portraiture most of the time. Particularly self portraiture, using crazy vivid colours and on whatever materials stay still long enough (windows, mirrors, skateboards etc.). She explores ideas around the multiple different versions of ourselves and how the detailed facets of personality are fascinating to try and capture. Izzy is also interested in selfie culture and how many thousands of versions of everyone there are in the digital realm. Oh boy, and emotional expression too… Look, she is interested in a lot of stuff really, you’ll just have to come and see it! Her work is created with various materials: particularly oil pastels, acrylic paint, hot wax and nails and in general loves to make a mess. She sees herself as quite the chaotic artist, and heavily emotional (hence the interest in expressionism).

Sam has just finished up her Bachelor of Arts before continuing with her Masters in 2023! She dabbles in many forms but for the most part you can find her behind the camera shooting film photography, in the spray painting booth working on large 2D works, or constructing installations (that are always heavily concept based). Her main focus over the last few years has been exploring grief and loss, but more specifically the thought processes within these experiences. Her aim is to get viewers thinking, and feeling – that’s for sure! You can see in her works that she currently inspired by the Bauhaus and constructivist movements. Her practice is growing and changing, presently creating large photographic series based on narratives – almost like still frames from a film – you’ll just have to come and see it for yourself.

Opening Event: Sat 19 November, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm
