Bright colours, camp objects, and familiar scenery dominate the picture plane for GERWYN DAVIES upcoming exhibition Subtropics. Akin to leisure and recreation postcards, the series of photographs is informed by the aesthetics of the Australian lifestyle. Rife with contrivance these consciously constructed sets and elaborate costumes become a site for Davies’ to perform obscure narratives in a process of self-imaging. Subtropics is a tribute to Australian made camp and sinking into the above ground pool of our tepid cultural cringe.
Exhibition Opening: Saturday July 30.
